Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd Wins Contract for Somerset Rural Life Museum Redevelopment

Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd has been appointed as the main build contractor for the £2.3m redevelopment of Somerset Rural life Museum in Glastonbury.

Russell Lillford, Chairman of the Somerset Building Preservation Trust and the Museum Project Board, praised the Bristol company’s track record of delivering successful conservation projects in the South West, including Tyntesfield visitor centre, Wells Cathedral visitor centre and the new facilities at the American Museum near Bath.

He added: “Ken Biggs has shown an impressive commitment to using sustainable methods and maintaining the local landscape. This is an important phase for all of us in the project and we are looking forward to creating an impressive space with exciting new exhibit areas and facilities.”

Paul Wyatt, Managing Director of Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd said: “This was a challenging but exciting project for us. We have started to build up a record in architectural conservation and restoration and the business is diversifying into new areas, including the heritage and specialist private sector.

“The development of the museum is a fantastic project to be involved in, and I’ll definitely be recommending that people pay the attraction a visit.”

The Project is being undertaken by the South West Heritage Trust in partnership with the Somerset Building Preservation Trust.  The refurbishment works include the provision of improved visitor facilities and visitor access, the creation of a new Community Learning Space and new museum gallery displays and temporary exhibition gallery.  The Project has been made possible through funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company, Heritage Lottery Fund, Somerset County Council, Garfield Weston Foundation, Fairfield Trust and the Friends of the Somerset Rural life Museum.

Work will begin on site on 1st December. For further information visit: www.somersetrurallifemuseum.org.uk
